Smoobu can produce a country-compliant electronic invoice (e-invoice) for your guests. E-invoicing is a paid add-on and is currently available for Germany, Spain, and Italy, each using its country's official electronic format. For Germany and Spain, you switch it on in your Invoice Settings by setting your invoicing language, your sender country, and a valid tax ID. Italy has its own activation, with an E-invoice toggle and a Tax Regime.
What e-invoicing is in Smoobu
E-invoicing generates an electronic invoice in your country's required format, on top of the standard PDF invoice Smoobu already creates for any booking. If you only need a normal invoice or a PDF, you do not need this add-on. See How do I create and send an invoice to my guest? and Set up your invoice template.
It is a paid add-on: 5.90 euros per month or 70.80 euros per year, charged per account rather than per property, and included free on the Teams Pro + plan. New activations include a 14-day trial.
E-invoicing is currently available for Germany, Spain, and Italy. Each country's e-invoice uses that country's official format: Germany's XRechnung, Spain's VeriFactu, and Italy's FatturaPA, filed through Italy's government SDI (Sistema di Interscambio) gateway. Italy runs on Smoobu's earlier e-invoicing setup, so its activation has its own steps.
How you switch e-invoicing on
For Germany and Spain, you turn e-invoicing on the same way: it follows your invoicing language and your sender country, and it needs a valid tax ID. Italy has its own activation; see Italian e-invoicing with FatturaPA and SDI.
In Configuration > Invoice Settings:
- Set your Invoicing language to the country's language.
- Fill in Sender Information, including the Country.
- Choose a Tax Type and enter a valid tax number or VAT ID.
Until a Tax Type and tax number are set, e-invoicing cannot be enabled. Check this first. Once e-invoicing is on for a German sender, Smoobu also shows an invoice-layout selector (A4 or DIN 5008) that is not there otherwise.
Your country's format and steps
Each country uses its own official format and has its own activation or registration specifics. Follow the dedicated guide for your country:
- Germany, XRechnung: German e-invoicing with XRechnung.
- Spain, VeriFactu: Spanish e-invoicing with VeriFactu.
- Italy, FatturaPA (filed through the government SDI gateway): Italian e-invoicing with FatturaPA and SDI.
Each guide covers that country's setup, how the invoice is produced and sent, and the country-specific rules to watch for, such as the German and Italian rule that an issued e-invoice cannot be edited or deleted.
Common questions
How much does e-invoicing cost?
5.90 euros per month or 70.80 euros per year, charged per account and not per property. It is included free on the Teams Pro + plan, and new activations include a 14-day trial.
Do I still need to set up my invoice template?
Yes. E-invoicing builds on your normal invoice setup, so your sender details, tax settings, and numbering still come from Invoice Settings. See Set up your invoice template.
Is there a partner for automated compliant invoicing in Germany?
bnbills is a Smoobu marketplace partner that automates compliant invoice generation and city tax (Kurtaxe) for German hosts and syncs the results to accounting software. It is an alternative to Smoobu's built-in e-invoicing if you want the whole invoicing and bookkeeping flow automated.
