You can shape how your website looks and who sees which parts of it. What you cannot do is show different content to different visitors automatically, based on things like their location or the time of day. This article explains where the line runs, so you know what to reach for.
What you can personalize
The look of the whole site. In the editor, open Theme. Everything there applies across every page at once, so one change keeps the site consistent instead of drifting page by page. You can set your colours (including generating a palette from your logo), your buttons, your text and fonts, your images, your backgrounds, and the page width and spacing. See Site Theme for the steps.
The background of a single page. Most theme settings are site-wide, but backgrounds are the exception: you can give one page its own background while the rest of the site keeps the theme. See Site Theme.
What shows on phones, tablets and desktops. Any row or column can be hidden on a specific device. A block that works on a wide screen but crowds a phone can simply be switched off there, without deleting it or building a second page. See Editor Overview for where the control sits, and Screen Sizes and Devices for how the different screen sizes behave.
The language of the site. If your guests do not all read the same language, you can add languages to your site under More, then Settings, then Site Languages. See Site Settings.
What each page says. Pages, sections and widgets are yours to arrange. Writing a page that speaks to the guests you actually get is usually more effective than any automatic rule would be.
What is not available
Your Smoobu website builder does not include visitor-triggered rules: automatically showing a different banner, popup or block depending on a visitor's location, device type, time of day, or whether they have been to your site before. If you have read about that feature elsewhere, it belongs to a version of the website builder that Smoobu does not include.
There is no workaround that reproduces it. The practical alternative is the one above: set the site up so it reads well for every visitor, and use the device controls where a block genuinely does not belong on a small screen.
Common questions
Can I show a discount banner only to returning guests? No. There is no way to detect a returning visitor and change the page for them. If you want to reach past guests with an offer, send it to them directly instead, for example with a message template or a newsletter.
Can I show different prices or availability to different visitors? No, and you would not want to: your prices and availability come from Smoobu and are the same for everyone, which is what keeps your calendar and your channels in agreement.
Can I hide a section on mobile only? Yes. That is the device control described above, and it is the closest thing to a personalization rule that your editor offers.
I found an article about personalization rules. Why can I not find the feature? That article described the feature as it exists in the wider website builder platform, not in the version included with Smoobu. It has been withdrawn.
