Smoobu now translates guest messages directly within the app, eliminating the need to copy and paste text into separate translation tools. You can instantly read messages sent in different languages and translate your replies before sending them.
Before You Start
- Language Detection: The translation feature only activates when the app detects that a guest's message is written in a language different from your own. Very short messages and emoji-only messages are excluded from translation
How to Translate Incoming Messages
When a guest sends you a message in a different language, a Translate button automatically appears below their text.
- Tap Translate below the guest's message
- The text will instantly translate into your selected Smoobu language (Android: Device language)
- To switch back to the original text at any time, tap Show original
Tip: Once a message has been translated, tapping the button again displays the cached result immediately with no extra loading time.
How to Translate Your Replies
You can also ensure your guests receive replies in their own language.
- Write your response in your native language
- Tap Translate
- Review the AI-generated translation
- Tap Send. Your guest will receive the message translated into their language
Data Privacy and Accuracy
- Privacy First: Your guests' personal data is safe. Messages are anonymized before processing; email addresses and phone numbers are masked before reaching the translation service
- Verification: Translations are powered by AI and may occasionally contain errors. Whenever a translation is displayed, a banner will remind you: "AI-translated. May contain errors, please rely on the original text."
- Critical Details: Always verify important booking details like prices, dates, and access codes against your actual Smoobu booking data rather than relying solely on the translation
Common Questions
Why don't I see the Translate button on a message?
The button only appears if the app detects the message is in a different language than yours. Additionally, very short messages or messages containing only emojis will not trigger the translation option
Can I hide the AI warning banner?
Yes, you can dismiss the notice banner when it appears. However, we highly recommend keeping the warning in mind when making important choices based on a translation.
