Smoobu can translate guest messages for you inside the app, so you do not have to copy text into a separate translation tool. You can read a message a guest sent in another language, and you can have your own reply translated before it goes out. You do this from Messages.
Before you start
- Translation only appears when Smoobu detects that a message is written in a language different from your own Smoobu language. If a guest writes in your language, there is nothing to translate and no button appears.
- Very short messages and emoji-only messages are skipped and will not show a Translate button.
- Translation covers the languages Smoobu itself is available in. If a guest writes in a language Smoobu does not support, no Translate button appears.
Translate a message a guest sent you
When a guest writes to you in a different language, a Translate button appears below their message.
- Tap Translate below the guest's message.
- The text is translated into your selected Smoobu language. (On Android, it uses your device language.)
- To go back to the original wording at any time, tap Show original.
Once a message has been translated, tapping the button again shows the saved translation straight away, with no extra loading.
Translate your reply before you send it
You can also make sure your guest reads your reply in their own language.
- Write your reply in your own language.
- Tap Translate.
- Check the translated version.
- Tap Send. Your guest receives the message in their language.
Check important details yourself
- Your guests' data stays protected. Messages are anonymized before they are processed, and email addresses and phone numbers are masked before the text reaches the translation service.
- Translations are AI-generated and can occasionally be wrong. Whenever a translation is shown, you see a reminder: "AI-translated. May contain errors, please rely on the original text." You can dismiss that banner, but keep the caution in mind.
- Always confirm the things that matter, such as prices, dates, and access codes, against the real booking in Smoobu rather than trusting the translation for them.
Common problems
There is no Translate button on a message
The button only appears when Smoobu detects the message is in a different language than yours. It also does not appear on very short messages or messages that are only emojis, or when the message is in a language Smoobu does not support.
Can I hide the "AI-translated" warning?
Yes. You can dismiss the banner when it appears. We still recommend keeping the warning in mind whenever you make an important decision based on a translation.
