Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second check when you log in to Smoobu: after your password, you also enter a verification code that Smoobu emails to your account email address. You switch it on with a single toggle on your profile page.
Before you start
You need one thing in place before switching this on:
- Make sure the email address on your Smoobu account is one you check regularly. Every verification code is sent there. You can see and change it via .
How Smoobu's 2FA works
Verification codes come by email only. There is no authenticator app, no text message code, and there are no backup codes. Smoobu asks for a code only when you log in and enter your password; changing your password or your account settings does not trigger one. The login dialog can mention a text message, but the code arrives by email, so check your inbox rather than your phone.
Steps
- Click your profile icon at the top right and choose Manage Account.
- On the Profile page, find the 2 Factor toggle in the Settings block.
- Turn the toggle on.
To switch 2FA off later, use the same toggle.
Check it worked
Log out and log back in. After entering your password, Smoobu asks for a verification code and sends it to your account email. Enter the code and you land on your Home page. If you aren't asked for a code, go back to the Profile page and check that the toggle is on.
Common problems
The verification code doesn't arrive
Work through these in order:
- Check your spam and junk folders.
- Confirm the email address on your Smoobu account is one you can open.
- Add service@smoobu.com to your email provider's safe senders or contacts; that is the address the verification code comes from.
- Wait a few minutes. Some email providers delay these messages.
If the code still doesn't arrive, contact Smoobu Support.
The login dialog mentions a text message
The code arrives by email. You don't need a phone number for Smoobu's 2FA; check the inbox of your account email address.
You can't access your account email any more
If the email address on your Smoobu account is one you can no longer open, you can't receive the code, and you can't log in to change the address yourself. Contact Smoobu Support: after verifying that the account is yours, the team temporarily disables 2FA so you can log in and update your email address. A copy of a Smoobu invoice is the standard proof of ownership to include.
