To change the card or bank details Smoobu charges for your subscription, update your payment method under Billing Information in your account. This article is about how you pay Smoobu. If you want to change how guests pay you when they book, that is a different setting: see .
Before you start
You need this before the setting exists:
- An active subscription. The Payment Method section only appears once you have subscribed. During the free trial there are no payment details on file; you enter them when you subscribe. See .
Payment links from Smoobu are valid for 30 days
When Smoobu emails you an action link about your subscription (Pay now for an unpaid invoice, or Update payment method), the link stays valid for 30 days from the moment it is emailed. You never have to wait for such a link, though: you can change your payment method in Billing Information at any time, and pay open invoices under Manage Account > Smoobu invoices.
Steps
- Click your profile icon at the top right of any Smoobu page.
- Click Manage Account.
- Open Billing Information.
- Open the Payment Method section.
- Enter your new payment details and click Save.
Check it worked
The Payment Method section shows the details you just saved, and your next subscription charge uses the new payment method.
Common problems
You don't see the Payment Method section
The section appears on accounts with an active subscription. On a trial account there is no payment method to change yet; you add one when you pick a plan and subscribe.
Your payment link expired
Pay-now and update-payment-method links expire 30 days after they were emailed. You don't need the link: pay any open invoice directly under Profile icon > Manage Account > Smoobu invoices, or update your details in Billing Information as described above. If you specifically need a fresh link, request one from Smoobu's Accounting team, which handles billing and is separate from general Support (contact details below).
A payment failed
Smoobu retries failed payments automatically, and you keep full access to your account while it does; you may also see a banner on the Billing page telling you a payment was unsuccessful and that Smoobu will try again. Update your payment method with the steps above so the retry can succeed, and settle any open invoice under Smoobu invoices. An invoice that stays unpaid for long enough leads to a blocked account: see Why is my account blocked (and how do I unblock it)?.
