In Smoobu, currency is set per sales channel, not once for your whole account. The prices you enter in Smoobu are plain numbers, and each channel shows those numbers in whatever currency that channel is set to. You set the currency for your own website inside Smoobu, for Airbnb and Agoda in each channel's settings inside Smoobu, and for other channels on the channel's own side. Booking.com is the exception: it sets your currency itself.
Before you start
- Know where your bookings come from. The currency setting lives in a different place for your own website, for Airbnb and Agoda, and for every other channel, so you set it once per channel.
- Plan to use the same currency everywhere. Smoobu does not convert currencies, so mixed currencies mean your real prices differ from channel to channel.
Your Smoobu prices are numbers without a currency
The prices you set in Pricing are numeric values only. Smoobu sends the same number to every connected channel and does not convert it. If your booking engine is set to euros and your Airbnb listing runs in US dollars, a price of 100 becomes 100 euros on your website and 100 US dollars on Airbnb. That is why we recommend the same currency on every channel and on your own website.
Steps
- Your own website and booking engine: open Configuration > Booking Engine and select the Booking System Settings tab. At the top of that tab, above Payment Methods, open the Currency dropdown. It defaults to EUR and offers around 30 currencies, including GBP, USD, and CHF. Choose your currency and save. This setting applies to direct bookings through your booking engine and website.
- Airbnb: open Configuration > Channels and set the currency in Airbnb's Additional settings.
- Agoda: set the currency in Agoda's Additional settings under Channels. This tells Smoobu which currency your Agoda listing uses, but it does not change anything on Agoda's side. Make sure it matches the currency set in your Agoda account.
- Booking.com: there is no currency setting for you to change, not in Smoobu and not in the Extranet. Booking.com forces the local currency on your listing, and most hosts cannot change it.
- Every other channel: set the currency on the channel's own side, where the channel offers a setting. These channels have no Smoobu-side currency setting.
Check it worked
Open your booking engine the way a guest would: prices show the currency you picked in Booking System Settings. On each channel, your listing shows the currency set for that channel. The numbers themselves stay the ones you set in Smoobu.
Common problems
Can I run different currencies on different channels?
Your channels can be set to different currencies, but this does not work well with synced prices. Smoobu sends one number to all channels without converting it, so 100 becomes 100 euros on one channel and 100 US dollars on another, and your real prices drift apart by the exchange rate. The per-channel price-difference figures in Pricing also read as very large percentages, because they compare two different currencies. If one channel has to run in a different currency, compensate with a percentage adjustment for that channel (see ), and check it regularly: the adjustment is a fixed percentage, but exchange rates move.
Does a dynamic-pricing tool use my currency too?
Smoobu Dynamic Pricing shares the booking engine currency setting: its Currency field and the one in Booking System Settings are the same setting shown in two places, so changing one changes the other. PriceLabs reads your Smoobu currency when it connects and prices in that currency. Set your booking engine currency before connecting so it picks up the right one. If a connected tool shows the wrong currency, see .
