Changing your Smoobu website happens in two places. Your texts, photos, and property details live in your Website Builder settings in Smoobu and flow into the site. The design, pages, and menus are changed in the visual editor behind the Go to Editor button.
Before you start
You need these before you edit:
- Your website is set up. If you haven't built it yet, start with create-your-website.
- A paid plan, if you want your changes live. You can build and edit on any plan, but publishing the site to a live web address requires a paid Smoobu subscription.
Content is edited in Smoobu, design in the editor
Everything guests read about your properties comes from Smoobu, under Configuration > Website Builder: the Website Content tab holds your site-wide texts (heading, description, about us, contact and imprint details, house rules, further information, terms, and privacy text), and the Accommodations tab holds each property's marketing title, address, description, photos, and amenities.
In the visual editor, the sections showing that content carry a black View only tag. This is expected: they display your Smoobu content and can't be typed into directly. To change what a View only section says, edit the matching field in the Website Content or Accommodations tab.
Edit your texts, photos, and property details
- Open Configuration > Website Builder.
- Open the Website Content tab and edit the site-wide texts.
- Open the Accommodations tab and click Details & Photos on a property to edit its marketing title, address, description, photos, and amenities.
- Click Save.
Edit the design, pages, and menus
Click Go to Editor at the top of the Website Builder page. The editor opens your site's pages, with panels on the left for adding elements, managing pages, and changing the theme (colors and fonts). Click Republish when you're done so your changes go live. Three frequent jobs:
Rename a page title in the main menu
- Open the Pages panel in the left sidebar.
- Click the page, then click the three-dot menu next to it.
- Click Rename and enter the new name.
Edit the mobile menu
- Switch to mobile view with the device switcher at the top of the editor.
- Double-click the menu icon (the three stacked lines), then click open menu. A single click doesn't open it.
- Double-click a menu item to edit its text, or click Manage Links to add, remove, or reorder pages.
Add a link to text or the footer
- Select the text, in a page or in the footer.
- Click the link icon in the small format bar that appears.
- Pick the link target: an existing page, a property page, a web address, an anchor on the page, an email address, a phone number, or a file to download.
For deeper design work (individual widgets, theme options, custom code), the help center has a separate reference article for each editor element; search the help center for the element's name. One thing that is not in the editor at all: the booking form's own colors and style are set in your Booking Engine settings, a separate surface. See customize-booking-engine-appearance.
Two pages you can't restyle yourself: Property Details and Book Now
Your Property Details page and your Book Now page are built by Smoobu and can't be restructured in the editor. Their layout and the elements they show are fixed, and you'll notice two things:
- The booking buttons keep Smoobu's own color. They don't follow the button color you set in the editor's Theme, so on these two pages the buttons can look different from the rest of your site.
- The Property Details headings and labels are in English by default, for example "Bedrooms" and "Max. occupancy". The booking calendar itself follows your guest's language automatically; only these fixed labels stay English.
On request, Smoobu Support can change two of these for you: the text language and the button styling. The page structure and the elements shown are fixed and can't be changed. Contact Smoobu Support and tell them which of the two you'd like.
This is separate from the booking form's own colors, which you set yourself in your Booking Engine settings; see customize-booking-engine-appearance.
Check it worked
Open your published website and confirm your change shows. Changes made in the editor go live after you click Republish.
Common problems
The editor won't open when you click Go to Editor
Contact Smoobu Support and send us a screenshot of the error you see.
Photos or texts you uploaded don't show on the site
If you changed content in Smoobu and the published site still shows the old version, first click Save in the section you changed, then click Go to Editor again, even if the editor tab is already open. That is what pushes your Smoobu content into the site. If the old version still shows after that, the site needs a content refresh that only our customer service team can run. Contact Smoobu Support and describe what you changed.
