RemoteLock is a bridge to several lock brands, so you connect the lock through RemoteLock rather than to Smoobu directly. It covers August, HID, Kwikset, Schlage and Yale. If you own a Yale lock, this is the route to use. Yale has no separate connection of its own. Once connected, RemoteLock creates a PIN for each booking and Smoobu sends it with the [remoteLockPin] placeholder.
Before you start
You need all of these before you connect:
- A RemoteLock account with your locks already added.
- API access on that account. RemoteLock switches this on for you. Email RemoteLock support at support@remotelock.com, say that you are a Smoobu customer, and include the email address on your RemoteLock account. Wait for their confirmation before going further.
- A property in Smoobu to link each lock to.
Steps
- In Smoobu, go to Marketplace, open the Smart Home category and select RemoteLock. Keep this page open. Step 5 brings you back here to paste the Client ID and Client Secret you create along the way.
- Once RemoteLock confirms your API access, open their developer site at developer.remotelock.com and create a new OAuth application.
- Fill in the application name and the redirect URL with the following data. Leave the other fields empty.
- Name:
Smoobu - Redirect URL:
https://login.smoobu.com/
- Name:
- Copy the Client ID and the Client Secret straight away and keep them somewhere safe. RemoteLock shows the secret only once.
- Back on the RemoteLock page in Smoobu, paste in the Client ID and the Client Secret.
- Link each of your properties to the RemoteLock lock that belongs to it.
- Open your automated arrival message and insert the
[remoteLockPin]placeholder. Copy it from the placeholder panel rather than typing it.
Check it worked
- Your RemoteLock locks appear in Smoobu and each one is linked to a property.
- Preview the guest message on a future booking. The
[remoteLockPin]placeholder is replaced by a real PIN.
Common problems
RemoteLock rejects the connection
The most common cause is that API access is not active yet. It is not switched on by default and RemoteLock has to enable it on their side. Check that you have their confirmation before pasting the keys.
I lost the Client Secret
RemoteLock displays the secret only when the application is created. If you no longer have it, create a new OAuth application on their developer site and paste the new Client ID and Client Secret into Smoobu.
The placeholder shows as text instead of a code
The placeholder is [remoteLockPin], with a capital L and a capital P. Copy it from the placeholder panel in the message editor. Door codes aren't showing up in your messages covers the other causes.
My Yale lock does not appear
Yale locks reach Smoobu through RemoteLock, so the lock has to be set up in your RemoteLock account first. If it is missing there, add it in RemoteLock before linking it to a property in Smoobu.
A guest got two different codes for one booking
This has been reported on Expedia bookings. Contact Smoobu Support with the booking before you send a code to the guest. Only the customer service team can confirm which of the two codes is the active one.

Good afternoon,
Could you please check if my connection to RemoteLock is set up correctly for the Heroine Hideaway property? For some reason, I'm receiving codes from Smoobu, but they aren't being programmed into the RemoteLock app. All other properties are working fine.
Thank you!
