You start the connection in your Nuki account, not in Smoobu. Once the two are linked, Nuki creates a door code for each booking and Smoobu sends it to your guest inside your own message template using the [nukiPin] placeholder.
Before you start
You need all of these before you connect:
- An active Nuki Smart Hosting subscription. The integration does not work without it. Smart Hosting is a paid product on your Nuki account, separate from the lock itself.
-
A Nuki lock with a keypad. The
[nukiPin]placeholder sends a numeric code, so the guest needs a keypad to type it into. A keypad is the small pad of number keys mounted by the door. Without one, the placeholder cannot be used. - A Nuki account with your lock already set up. Check you can lock and unlock the door from the Nuki app first.
- A property in Smoobu to link the lock to.
Steps
- Log in to your Nuki account at nuki.io.
- Open Short Term Rental and click Connect Now. Nuki shows the property management systems it connects to.
- Select Smoobu from that list.
- Click Link. Nuki sends you to Smoobu to confirm that Nuki may access your account. Use a computer for this step rather than a phone or tablet.
- Confirm the connection in Smoobu. Smoobu and Nuki are now linked. If Smoobu does not show the connection straight away, refresh the page.
- In Nuki, choose which property each lock belongs to, and set when Nuki creates and sends the code. If a property has two doors, for example a building entrance and the apartment door, assign both locks to that same property here. Nuki then uses one code for both doors, and the single
[nukiPin]placeholder sends it. - In Smoobu, open Experience and then Communication, edit the automated message your guests receive before arrival, and insert the
[nukiPin]placeholder. Copy the placeholder from the placeholder panel rather than typing it. - Optional. To show the code in your Guest Guide as well, add
[nukiPin]to one of its elements. The same timing applies, so the code appears at the earliest 4 hours after the booking is made. Setting the guide up is covered in .
Check it worked
- Smoobu and Nuki show the accounts as linked.
- Open a booking that arrives in a few days and preview the guest message. The
[nukiPin]placeholder is replaced by a real code.
Timing: when the code exists
Nuki creates the code, so Nuki's schedule decides when a code is available. Two timings matter:
- A code exists at the earliest 4 hours after the booking is made. If you send a message sooner than that, the placeholder has nothing to fill in.
- A common setup is Nuki creating the code 3 days before arrival, and the Smoobu message going out 2 days before arrival. The one day gap is deliberate. It gives Nuki time to produce the code before Smoobu tries to send it.
Set the Nuki timing in your Nuki account and the message timing in Smoobu. Keep the Smoobu message later than the Nuki code creation.
This is also why the code reaches your guest through your own Smoobu template rather than through Nuki's own email to them. A guest does not always receive mail sent by the lock provider, so letting Nuki create the code and letting Smoobu deliver it gives you one delivery you control.
Common problems
The guest message went out without a code
The message was sent before Nuki had created the code. Check that the message fires later than the code creation time set in Nuki, and never sooner than 4 hours after a booking is made.
A booking arriving in less than 3 days got no code
Nuki creates the code on the schedule you set, commonly 3 days before arrival, so a booking made inside that window is missed. Log in to your Nuki account, open Short Term Rental, and click refresh at the bottom of the screen. Nuki creates the code straight away. Your automated message still goes out 2 days before arrival and picks it up, so you do not need to send anything by hand.
A booking arriving in less than 2 days got no code
Refresh in Nuki as above, then send the message yourself. Open the booking in your Smoobu calendar, click Show more, choose your door code template in the message area on the right, and send it.
The placeholder shows as text instead of a code
The placeholder has to match exactly, including capital letters. Copy [nukiPin] from the placeholder panel in the message editor. Door codes aren't showing up in your messages covers the other causes.
The connection is not offered in Nuki
If Short Term Rental does not appear in your Nuki account, your Nuki Smart Hosting subscription is not active. Nuki support can confirm the state of your subscription.

How do I send my customers an individual link to the Nuki App to download the app and even open the House door and the apartment door with the app and an individual code?
