Smart Devices is still rolling out. It is not available on every Smoobu account yet. If you cannot find Smart Devices in your Marketplace or Configuration, your account is not part of the rollout yet. There is nothing you need to do, and any lock you already connect directly keeps working exactly as before.
You connect a smart lock in the Smart Devices portal: enable the portal, sign in with your lock provider account, and assign each lock to a property. After that, Smoobu creates a door code for every new booking and adds it to your guest messages. What Smart Devices is and how it is billed is covered in smart-devices-explained.
Before you start
You need all of these before you connect:
- At least one property in Smoobu. You can only enable the portal once you have a property set up.
- A supported smart lock account. Have the login for your lock provider's own app ready. Smoobu supports many brands through Seam; see the list in smart-devices-explained.
- Access to the Smart Devices portal. Smart Devices is still rolling out, so it is not on every account yet. If you cannot find it in your Marketplace or Configuration, your account is not in the rollout yet. Connect your lock directly through its own integration instead, and keep using the placeholder that integration provides.
Steps
- Open the portal. In Smoobu, go to Marketplace and select Smart Devices, or go to Configuration and click Smart Devices. Both open the same page.
- Enable Smart Devices. The first time you open the portal, review the description, read and accept the terms, and click Enable.
- Connect your lock account. Click Connect, select your lock provider, and sign in with your lock provider account. Follow the on-screen prompts to authorize the connection. Your locks then sync to Smoobu, which can take a few moments.
- Assign each lock to a property. Open Organize Property Listings, select a property, assign the lock that belongs to it, and save. Repeat for every lock. Smoobu can only create codes for a property that has a lock assigned.
- Confirm newly detected locks. When Smoobu finds a new lock, it shows the lock name, the assigned property, the number of billable locks, and the price per lock. Click Confirm to keep the lock and make it available for guest codes, or Decline to remove it and avoid charges for it.
- Add the code to your guest messages. Open the automated message template that guests receive before arrival, insert the placeholder
[seamAccessCode], and save. Smoobu replaces it with each guest's code when the message sends. Setting up templates is covered in set-up-automated-messages.
Check it worked
- The lock shows an Online or Active status on the Smart Devices page.
- Send a test message to a test booking: the
[seamAccessCode]placeholder is replaced by a real code.
Common problems
Sign-in is rejected when I connect
Use your lock provider account login, not your Smoobu login. Smart Devices signs you in to your lock brand's own app account.
A guest did not receive a code
Codes are created only for bookings made after the lock is connected and assigned to that property. For a last-minute booking, the code may not be ready before the automated message goes out; once it appears on your dashboard, send it to the guest by hand.
The lock shows as offline
Open your lock provider's own app and confirm you can control the lock there. If it works in the app, disconnect the lock on the Smart Devices page and connect it again, taking care to enter your lock provider login correctly.
An error says a guest with this email address already exists
The portal expects each guest to have a unique email address, so a returning guest booking again with the same address produces this error. Turn on the setting that allows it: open the Settings tab in the Smart Devices portal, scroll to Number of access methods to create, select Allow shared email and phone across guests, then click Save Configuration.
You want codes based on your guests' phone numbers
This is not supported. The Settings tab of the Smart Devices portal shows the option, but the Smoobu integration does not use it, so leave it alone: codes are generated from the booking information Smoobu sends. Seeing the option is not a sign that something is configured wrongly on your side.
A replaced lock shows "Code Pending"
After you swap a lock, your calendar bookings take a moment to catch up. Code Pending, or a Code method is not issued yet message, means a code was requested for the old hardware before it was removed. It clears on its own once the new lock finishes its first sync.
