You link Expedia by activating Smoobu as your channel manager in Expedia Partner Central, then entering your Expedia Property ID (or Hotel ID) in Smoobu and mapping your properties. From then on, new Expedia bookings arrive in Smoobu automatically and Smoobu keeps your Expedia availability up to date. One thing to plan for: bookings you already have on Expedia are not imported, so you enter those in Smoobu yourself.
Before you start
You need all of these in place before you connect:
- An Expedia Partner Central account, with your listing live on Expedia.
- One bookable unit per Property ID (or Hotel ID). Each Property ID you connect must stand for a single bookable unit; Smoobu maps one Expedia listing to one Smoobu property. If a listing currently represents more than one room, split it into separate units on Expedia, each with its own Property ID, before you connect. Expedia runs no import when you connect, so unlike Booking.com there is no way to reallocate rooms afterwards. Expedia doesn't reject the connection, but you can't map a multi-room listing until it's split first.
- Availability set in Expedia Partner Central. A new Expedia listing with no bookings yet needs its availability opened for all bookable dates before you connect. You do this in Expedia Partner Central under Bulk Inventory and Availability. Good to know for later: Smoobu's sync updates what Expedia calls Inventory; Expedia's own Availability setting is separate and stays under your control in Partner Central.
- Your Expedia Property ID (or Hotel ID), the ID number of your listing in Expedia Partner Central.
- Your properties created in Smoobu, under Configuration > Properties.
Steps
- In Smoobu, open Channels in the left sidebar. On the Expedia card, click Connect.
- In a new tab, log in to Expedia Partner Central.
- Go to Rooms and Rates > Connectivity Settings.
- Select Smoobu GmbH as your channel manager (the service that manages your calendar and rates; that's Smoobu) and activate Rates & Availabilities and Booking Retrieval.
- Back in Smoobu, enter your Expedia Property ID (or Hotel ID) in the card's Add your Expedia Hotel ID field and click Save. Add every Property ID you want to connect.
- Map each Smoobu property to its Expedia listing. It can take up to 30 minutes after the Expedia-side activation before your listings show here; click Reload to fetch them again.
- In Expedia Partner Central, edit your notification settings so e-delivery is the primary method and email the secondary one.
Check it worked
- The Expedia card on the Channels page shows a Connected badge.
- A new booking made on Expedia appears in your Smoobu Bookings list with Expedia as the channel, and as a booking bar on your Calendar on the mapped property's row.
- Block a date in your Smoobu calendar. Within a few minutes, the date shows as unavailable on your Expedia listing.
Common problems
No Expedia listings appear when I try to map
It can take up to 30 minutes after you activate Smoobu in Expedia Partner Central before your listings are available in Smoobu. Wait, then click Reload. If they still don't appear, check in Rooms and Rates > Connectivity Settings that Smoobu GmbH is selected and that both Rates & Availabilities and Booking Retrieval are activated.
My old Expedia bookings are missing in Smoobu
That is how the Expedia connection works: unlike Booking.com and Airbnb, Expedia runs no import of existing bookings when you connect. Enter the bookings you already have into Smoobu manually, or you risk an overbooking. Bookings made after the connection arrive automatically.
My prices aren't showing on Expedia
Push your prices to Expedia once after connecting: go to Pricing > Settings > Percentage adjustment and click Overwrite Prices. Expedia appears as its own row in that price settings window. Connecting and mapping alone doesn't send prices. After that one-time push, later price changes reach Expedia when you click Synchronize now in Pricing.
